Addressing the housing demand in North Lanarkshire

Scotland is currently facing a national housing emergency and it is critical that a combination of both private and affordable housing is delivered to help address the demand.

The delivery of housing is a top priority for the Scottish Government, underlined in the recent Programme for Government announcement (4 September 2024). This outlined plans for £600 million investment into the delivery of affordable housing, with a commitment to deliver 110,000 new affordable homes by 2032.

Importantly, proposals brought forward by Hallam Land and Dullatur Golf Club will deliver up to 650 new homes, including a 25% affordable housing (163 homes). This is 5% higher than the required number of affordable homes for a development of this size as we recognise the continued demand within the local area.

Importantly, the masterplan also aligns with North Lanarkshire Council’s Local Housing Strategy 2021 – 2026 which aims to maximise the provision of affordable housing to meet a range of needs, creating vibrant, attractive, and sustainable communities.

Given the current stage in the planning process, no detail on the housing design or specification has been developed. Should planning permission in principle from North Lanarkshire Council be obtained, the housing developer will take forward the detail and specification of the proposed homes and will submit a detailed planning application to the local authority. This will take into consideration the specific housing needs of the community and provide a selection of house types that will be attractive to a range of demographics.
